Team Miller Sport Jujitsu

teammillerAt Miller’s Kenpo Karate Dojo, we are forming a Sport Jujitsu Competition Team (Team Miller) to compete at the Annual AKT Combatives Sport Jujitsu Classic tournament held every year in April at Good Times in Olean, NY. The tournament is a US Sport Jujitsu Association (USSJA) sanctioned tournament that is a qualifier for Team USA.

Sport Jujitsu is a set of rules allowing any student from any style (Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Kenpo, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, etc.) to compete against each other in a competitive, yet safe and friendly environment.

The tournament is a continuous point fighting tournament involving striking, takedowns and throws, and submissions that attracts students from all around the United States from all different styles.

Mr. Miller attended the 3rd Annual AKT Combatives Sport Jujitsu Classic Tournament this past April to see what it was about, how it was operated, the talent of the competitors, and to coach an adult student who was competing in it. His student ended up taking 3rd place. Mr. Miller was extremely impressed with the tournament and it motivated him to form a team to compete in it next year and every year after.

Miller’s Sport Jujitsu Competition Team (Team Miller) is an upgrade program for any Kenpo Kid, Junior or Adult yellow belt and up who want to test their skills against other martial artists in a fun, friendly competition. Being a part of this elite upgrade program means that you will have two extra classes per month (1st and 3rd Thursday of the month) from 6:00-6:30pm where you will learn things and do things that you don’t learn and don’t do in your regular program to gear you up for the competition in April.

One of the main things we will be doing in this special program that we don’t do in the regular programs is spar. In the regular programs we do sparring drills but we don’t actually spar. This program will involve a lot of sparring to gear you up for the competition. Other things you will learn that you don’t learn in the regular programs are takedowns, throws, takedown defenses, and submissions (Jiu-Jitsu – ground fighting). You will learn the ground positions, how to pass the guard, mount escapes, and much more that you don’t learn in the regular program.

This is going to be a great program and it will be a lot of fun. We hope you will consider being a part of this program and compete for Team Miller. The program will begin in June. Mr. Miller will be talking with everybody about it and will be handing out information packets that explain what the program is about and what it entails to be a part of the program. This is not for everybody and we understand that. If your child likes to compete or has a competitive nature, this will be perfect for him or her.

If you have any questions or would like to become a part of this program see Mr. Miller.
